Access & Interdependence Outdoors
Not every trail moment is about solitude.
Sometimes, access begins with being accompanied — by a friend, a carer, a child, a partner, a support dog, or even someone you’ve just met on the path.
But many outdoor designs still assume we move alone.
Benches for one. Narrow paths that separate walkers and wheels. Signage that speaks to a single “user,” instead of a shared experience.
At Access Trails UK, we’re curious about what shifts when we design for companionship:
- Wide-enough trails for two chairs or side-by-side movement
- Benches with space for rest and conversation
- Trail prompts or signage meant to be read together, not just used alone
- Policies that welcome assistance dogs and flexible support dynamics
- Recognition that being outdoors isn’t always about “independence” — sometimes it’s about interdependence
Who has helped you feel more at ease on a trail?
Who have you helped, just by showing up together?
Share a story, a snapshot, or a stillness from a shared journey.
And when you’re ready to wander more reflectively, Bloggyness is waiting — slow, thoughtful, and always companionable.
