We’ve rebuilt Access Trails paths to make it faster, clearer, and easier to find accessible walks across the UK & Ireland.
The platform now uses a redesigned structure that brings all routes together in a more intuitive way, helping you discover accessible outdoor spaces with less searching and more confidence.
What’s changed
Access Trails is now organised into a clearer system built around how people actually plan outdoor visits:
Regional hubs
All routes are now grouped into five simple regional hubs:
England • Scotland • Wales • Northern Ireland • Republic of Ireland
Each hub brings together verified accessible walks in one place, making it easier to browse nearby areas or plan trips.
Walk-type hubs
Routes are also now organised by experience type:
- Coastal Walks
- Lakeside Walks
- Woodland Walks
- Urban & Greenways
- Scenic Routes
- Featured Accessible Routes
This means you can now search by landscape and experience, not just location.
Why this restructure matters
The new structure improves how you explore accessible routes by:
- Making routes easier to find and compare
- Reducing time spent searching across pages
- Grouping similar walk types together for clarity
- Improving planning for different mobility needs
- Creating a more consistent experience across the site
Whether you’re looking for a flat lakeside circuit, a step-free promenade, or a woodland loop with seating and rest points, everything is now easier to navigate.
Built for real-world accessibility
Access Trails continues to focus on practical, verified route information, including surfaces, gradients, step-free continuity, and available facilities, helping you plan visits with confidence.
The restructure strengthens this by making that information easier to reach and compare across regions.
What happens next
We’ll continue expanding each hub with:
- New verified accessible routes
- Improved regional coverage
- Seasonal highlights and featured walks
- Ongoing updates based on real-world access changes
